DESCRIPTION:
This class will be Middle School World History from creation to the Roman Empire. We will cover biblical history as well as China and a few other areas. The class will focus on God’s plan of salvation playing out in world history. We will have weekly worksheets and tests every few chapters. Students will be required to keep all these in the binder and there will be binder checks. We will also explore cultural aspects of history and students will do some research about cultural norms of the different areas and times.
If students don’t have access to a printer please let me know.
Students should come to class with a 3 ring binder, paper and pencils and the textbook needed for class.

MS Anatomy

DESCRIPTION:
Anatomy and Physiology is the study of the body's systems and structures and how they interact. Anatomy focuses on the physical arrangement of parts in the body while physiology is the study of the inner functioning of cells, tissues, and organs. In this course, we will discover that the human body is the greatest creation of an all-knowing Master Designer!
We will begin the year studying the human cell and then quickly move into the structure, function, and regulation of the cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal systems. Next, we will learn about the incredible complexity of the nervous system, where students will realize that their bodies cannot be the result of chemical accidents occurring over millions of years. They will then study the function of digestion, a highly complex system created by God to transform food into fuel for our energy.
This course will consist of many hands-on projects, dissections, labs, homework, quizzes and tests. We may have an occasional field trip or guest speaker. Students will be required to complete a final project. We will meet once a week at co-op, but students will be required to spend the rest of the week reading the material and doing the homework. Quizzes and tests will be required. While the lecture portion will be done in class, parents are required to help as needed at home. We may have an occasional field trip or guest speaker. Art 101

DESCRIPTION:
This class is an introduction to basic art skills for Middle or High School students. We will go over art principles such as how to draw, types of art materials, the color wheel, and shades versus hues.
This class is suitable for beginner art students who have never taken an art course before, or for those who want to improve their drawing and fundamental art skills. Students will be able to grow at their own pace.
Students will have weekly sketchbook drawing prompts as homework. High School students can earn an art credit by completing a full year of the course and a final project related to the study.

DESCRIPTION: This is a class that will come alongside parents to help equip them to teach English to their student when they are not in the classroom setting.
English class will include: reading, grammar, writing, vocabulary, etc. We will be reading 4 novels throughout the year that will be discussed during class time. Our grammar will be a mixed compilation of various curriculums that will lead us to write essays, narrative stories, persuasive papers, and other creative pieces. Learning how to speak in front of peers and sharing our writing pieces will also be a part of our curriculum. Vocabulary will be taught using the Wordly Wise book 7 curriculum. I will expect students to work throughout the rest of the week on English at home with their parents when necessary, so that discussion can happen during our class time.

MS/HS Bible

DESCRIPTION: This year in Bible we will be conducting and in depth studying on a book or two from the Bible. I have not chosen the specific book yet, but students have thrown out ideas from Revelation to Joshua, to a study on the books that Paul wrote. As soon as I know what curriculum we are going to use, I will let you know.
The course will consist of book work, and home assignments. The home assignments will consist of verse memorization, Bible reading, and either essay writing or hands on projects. Those will be communicated very clearly in weekly emails.
My goal and purpose in teaching a Bible class is for students to grow in the knowledge and love of our Lord Jesus Christ. I want students to hide God's Word in their hearts so that they may not sin against Him.
This class will most likely be a pass/fail style class.

Need to have internet access at home. There are a number of online Bible study tools that are available online. If students do not want to use the online resources, they will need to have access to a STRONG'S CONCORDANCE. Strong's Concordance is available online, but if you want a hard copy that is fine as well.
For ease in class I will be using the ESV. However, students can use whichever version is used in their family. I often read out loud different versions to help students gain a better understanding.

Personal Finance

This course will cover personal finance in a real-world setting. We will be talking
about budgeting, saving money, consumer awareness, creating a business, and more.
Students will present a business in class as well as learn how to make a budget for daily
life and their business. We will be watching videos in class to jump start our
conversation with finances. I will supplement our main curriculum with other curriculum
to round out the class.

MS Earth Science

DESCRIPTION:
In this course, we will explore God’s glory in the scientific study of oceans, astronomy, weather, and minerals. We will study two core areas each semester. Students will create a mineral notebook, a milky way model, grasp a deeper knowledge of ocean tides, waves and currents as well as learn the dynamics of planets, stars, and galaxies. We will discuss the global water cycle and learn the properties of minerals. Other labs/projects may be required.

MS/HS Home Economics

DESCRIPTION
In the fall semester students will learn basic cooking skills. Students will also learn about calories, serving sizes, food journaling, making a meal plan, how to make a shopping list and how to cook for a crowd. Students will learn how to cook for others and gain skills to set them up for the future. We will be cooking "around the world" and studying different cultures foods.
In the spring semester, students will learn how to hand sew, the different stitches and how to sew on a button. They will also learn a basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. Students will get an opportunity to make a pillowcase, an animal pillow and other fun projects.

Critical Thinking

DESCRIPTION:
If you do not think for yourself, the world will think for you, and the world is your enemy. Students need to heed this truth.
Critical Thinking Skills is a course that teaches how to observe the culture and environment around and think for oneself using sound logic. We will focus specifically on a wide range of fallacies (errors of thinking) and how to demolish them.
This class is graded on a scale. It is fun, and requires minimal homework while providing maximum value. A final paper fixating on one particular fallacy will be required at the end of the year and count as 33% of the overall grade.

MS/HS Dance

DESCRIPTION:
This class will present technique in jazz and hip hop. The class will learn basic stretching, traveling technique across the floor and combinations center floor. They will learn a dance routine and perform it in an Arts Showcase at the end of the semester. For this class they will need to wear modest clothes they can move in. There is no shoe requirement and they can dance in their barefeet. Some turning may require socks.
Class Fee: $90 with a 50% sibling discount for a second child enrolled in a dance class.
Costume Fee: $30 per child for the costume for the performance
MS Art

DESCRIPTION:
This year Art is back, but full of beautiful flowers, and dead guys! We are studying Ancient Art History so be ready to craft your very own Mummy, paint with stuff made with feet, and design your idea of Eden.
Each 3–4-week unit will look at a different art technique and how people of the past used art to describe their beliefs about themselves, the world, and God. We will be using both 3D materials such as clay, paper mache' and tiles, while learning core art vocabulary, skills, and how to trust the process of creating art.
Students will also have the opportunity to practice their drawing skills with weekly 30-minute drawing prompts as homework related to our unit of study. Sketchbooks and all materials provided.

Intermediate Band

DESCRIPTION: This band class is for students who have been playing an instrument for more than ONE YEAR. This class is great for students who already have an instrument and have been through book one in a band class, or who have been taking private lessons for more than a year.
We will be going through a band method book along with playing a variety of music literature.
This class will need to have at least 3 students to continue. If it is less than 3, we will talk about private lessons instead. Depending on the instrumentation of the students who sign up, we will have either a trio or bigger depending on the size. After you sign up for the class, I will be in contact with you about further details.
Parents will be expected to provide their own instrument and maintain it. They will need to have on hand supplies to help their child perform successfully through out the semester. Those items include
reeds, valve oil, slide grease, and cleaning cloths. To make sure it is a good fit for your child. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Parents will need to sign up to help volunteer during class. I will have a sign up schedule for parents.
We will be meeting in the church, and therefore, will need another adult in the building to help with accountability and walking through the parking lot between the school and the church.

MS/HS Drama

DESCRIPTION:
MS/HS Drama is a class that seeks to teach and develop basic theater skills. In class we divide these skills into four basic groups called the “Four Legs of Drama”. They are vocalization, body movement, facial expression, and characterization. We remember them with the acronym, “Very Best Feigned Communication.”
This class is offered both semesters, but is not necessarily a year long commitment. Each semester we put on a different production and so it is very possible to take one semester but not another.
The cost of the class includes the class itself, costumes, and covers set/props. Of course donations and help with diy projects is always greatly appreciated. Each student may be required to use undergarments from home or purchase them. As an example I may provide a llama headpiece out of the drama fund but require the student to wear their own black leggings and white t-shirt to coordinate. If the costumes are not reusable for future dramas, the students are permitted to keep them.
This class will require commitment to rehearsals outside of Monday’s class time for the production that will be determined at the beginning of each semester. This class will also require the parents to be on a volunteer rotation at such rehearsals. I need extra eyes and hands to keep things safe and running smoothly. Parents will sign up for these volunteer commitments within the first few weeks of each semester.
Students who desire to serve on the Set Crew do not need to pay for the class. They may come to class on the weeks we focus on the production but not otherwise, since they are not enrolled. Set Crew is a volunteer team that is required to attend all extra rehearsals and sometimes meetings solely for them. This is not something that needs to be registered for, but requires one on one discussion with me.

MS/HS Choir

DESCRIPTION:
This will be a vocal class that focuses on vocal techniques, singing a varied repertoire of music, and instilling a love for Jesus through the songs we sing. It is my primary goal to pass along my passion for Jesus and music through the art of singing. Students will learn how to sing with proper technique, sing multiple parts, and learn to read music. While our main focus will be singing music that reflects our love for Jesus, we will be using different styles of music and non-Christian music to help the students add to their music education.
The copy fee helps cover the cost of the music we have to buy and the accompaniment trax that we may use.
