This year we will be studying ancient art history from Creation to the Chinese. Students will work on learning how God is the Great Artist! He has moved through time and art to display his purpose and plan in all things. Each week we will study a type of art through history, learn art vocabulary, skills, and make a personalized timeline page in their book. Along the way we will also be making some larger works of art such as pottery, Christmas ornaments, and fun keepsakes.

DESCRIPTION: This class will be an introduction to letters, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, holidays, seasons, colors, shapes and more. The class will consist of circle time where songs and warmups will take place. During circle time, we will be doing stories, poems or nursery rhymes that relate to the week’s theme. Other activities that will be included in the class will be arts and crafts, sensory play, large motor skill games and other play based learning.

Nature Science is a Charlotte Mason inspired nature study class that follows along with the seasons while engaging children with the beauty of God’s creation through time outdoors, books, songs, poetry, hand rhymes, handicrafts, observations, hands-on activities, nature notebooking, and scripture.

These things will be kept in the student's pouch (that I will provide) and will stay in the classroom unless they need it for completing anything at home. Anything remaining at the end of the semester will return home with each student.
Lower El Dance

DESCRIPTION:
This class will work on class technique in jazz and ballet. They will learn basic stretching as well as basics in multi discipline dance. They will learn a dance which they will perform at the Arts showcase at the end of the semester. They need to wear modest clothing that they can move in. There is no shoe requirement, and they can dance in bare feet.
Class Fee: $70 with a 50% sibling discount for a second child enrolled in this class or another dance class.
Costume Fee: There will be a $30 costume fee each semester for a costume for the Arts night performance.
Lower EL Home Economics

DESCRIPTION:
In the fall semester, students will get a general knowledge of basic cooking skills. They will also learn a basic knowledge of calories and serving sizes and why these things are important to our bodies. They will gain a knowledge of meal planning and the different cuisines from around the world.
In the spring semester, students will learn how to hand sew, the different stitches and how to sew on a button. They will also learn a basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. Students will get an opportunity to make a pillowcase, an animal pillow and a few other small projects.

Lower El Bible

DESCRIPTION:
This course will use The Biggest Story: Bible Storybook by Kevin Deyoung, in addition to, The Bible Study for Kids by Zach Windahl. Classes may also be supplemented with additional material that is biblically sound. We will work our way through the Bible in chronological order. Class time will consist of a bible story, corresponding activities, scripture copy work and team building exercises. Students will create a prayer journal and the importance of a healthy prayer life will be discussed often. This class will also focus on scripture memorization with a weekly take home verse to memorize.

Join us as we study the world of Ancient Art! We will be taking a trip back in time as we study the people, places, and techniques used to make art long ago.
We start the year off seeing God as the Great Artist! Then we will work our way through gilded Egyptian sarcophogi, Babylonian mosaics, ancient pottery, and Chinese sumi ink painting and more. We will be studying how as people made in the image of God, we have the opportunity to either use our talents for His glory or ours! Each project will take several weeks to complete and will include 2D and 3D materials.

DESCRIPTION: Students will have weekly STEAM challenges and opportunities to pick a card or do a mystery spin for their choice each week. After each build, students will have an opportunity to present their creation to the class if desired to. In addition to these STEAM challenges, we will look at building personal character traits and biblical truths about who God created us to be! Class will begin with a lesson that fits the theme for the week. Students will have the bulk of class time to create and build according to their choice of challenge cards.

n this class we will work on strengthening students phonics skills using a variety of hands-on approaches. Students will be exposed to different genres of literature to help build excitement toward learning how to read. Students will learn strategies to recognize and manipulate sounds in words through interactive games and activities, songs, and worksheets. Students can receive take home activities to continue building their skills at home.

Choir/ Recorder

DESCRIPTION: I am so excited to teach recorder this year. It is going to be a lot of fun! Each student will get their own recorder, method book, CD, and supplies to go with the recorder. This method is fun and engaging for students. Recorder is a great introduction into the world of band. Students will learn about rhythm, different band instruments, how to play an instrument, and how to read music. All in an engaging and fun classroom environment. Elementary choir will consist of students from grades 1st-5th. This will be an fun environment where students will learn proper singing techniques, vocal care, and how to praise the Lord with our vocal instruments. We will plan to sing songs from varying genres that are not always Christian songs (most will be), but will be appropriate for our co-op environment. My goal in this music class is to pass along my passion for Jesus and for music. I am not sure yet if we will play recorder for 30minutes and sing for 30 minutes or if we will do it by semester. I will keep you posted on that decision. Students will be expected to bring class materials with them every week. There is a class copy fee that will help cover any printed music that we choose to play/sing for concerts or in class that are not included in the book. It also helps cover the cost of accompaniment traxs.

Basic CAD

DESCRIPTION: This is a basic CAD course using Pro Desktop CAD software. The students will start off with understanding drafting and design terminology, understanding of basic sketching and orthographic projection, and CAD usage in industry.
CAD programs can help you explore design ideas, visualize concepts through photorealistic renderings, and simulate how a design will perform in the real world. You can use CAD software to design cars, ships, bicycles, prosthetics, and so much more.

DESCRIPTION: This is a class that will come alongside parents to help equip them to teach English to their student when they are not in the classroom setting.
English class will include: reading, grammar, writing, vocabulary, etc. We will be reading 4 novels throughout the year that will be discussed during class time. Our grammar will be a mixed compilation of various curriculums that will lead us to write essays, narrative stories, and other creative writing pieces. Vocabulary will be taught using the Wordly Wise curriculum. I will expect students to work throughout the rest of the week on English at home with their parents when necessary to stay on top of their work so that discussion can happen during our class time.

Upper EL/MS Woodworking

DESCRIPTION: This is a basic woodworking class, and no previous experience is necessary. The course will examine safety in the shop and with hand tools, proper tool usage and maintenance, basic sketching and reading prints and building a lot of fun projects.
Since we are using hand tools, there is always a chance that a slight injury may occur. In my 30 years of education, I have yet to have an injury that a Band-Aid couldn’t fix. But I would like the parents to understand that the church, co-op and instructor would not be held liable for injuries. Also if a student is not behaving in a safe manner, they will be removed from the shop setting, and will only be readmitted with the parent present.

Upper EL Bible

DESCRIPTION: The Answers for Kids curriculum will guide students through the seven C’s of history. Creation, Corruption, Catastrophe, Confusion, Christ, Cross, and Consummation are key facts to biblical history we will study during 1st semester. We will use these beginning guidelines to look at the common worldviews we see today and how to seek biblical truths in our everyday lives in 2nd semester. Some topics we will cover in the 2nd semester are “Is there really a God?”, “How old is the earth?”, “Did animals evolve?” and “What happened to the dinosaurs?”. This curriculum set is based on the Creation Museum theme and has fun extras online at https:/answersingenesis.org/kids that we will look at as well. My hope is to equip our students with the tools they need to share their faith boldly and defend the truth of the gospel with a solid understanding of biblical history.

Beginner Band (5th/6th grade)

DESCRIPTION: This is a beginner band that is designed for students who have never picked up an instrument before, or students who have played for less than a year. Band instruments include woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. We will be going through a band method book, and performing pieces of musical literature that help the students grow in their knowledge of music and their instrument.
Parents will be expected to provide their own instrument and maintain it. They will need to have on hand supplies to help their child perform successfully through out the semester. Those items include reeds, valve oil, slide grease, and cleaning cloths. If you need help locating an instrument, please contact me and I will set you up with a good rental program, or we can talk about where to buy instruments. Please DO NOT buy one off Facebook without checking it out first and playing it. To make sure it is a good fit for your child. Please contact me if you have any questions.
This class will need to have at least 3 students to continue. If it is less than 3, we will talk about private lessons instead. Depending on the instrumentation of the students who sign up, we will have either a trio or bigger depending on the size. After you sign up for the class, I will be in contact with you about further details.

Upper EL Drama
Teacher: Mrs. Cappon
Grades: 4th-6th

DESCRIPTION:EL Drama is a class that seeks to teach and develop basic theater skills. In class we divide these skills into four basic groups called the “Four Legs of Drama”. They are vocalization, body movement, facial expression, and characterization. We remember them with the acronym, “Very Best Feigned Communication.”
This class is offered both semesters, but is not necessarily a year long commitment. Each semester we put on a different production and so it is very possible to take one semester but not another.
The cost of the class includes the class itself, costumes, and covers set/props. Of course donations and help with diy projects is always greatly appreciated. Each student may be required to use undergarments from home or purchase them. As an example I may provide a llama headpiece out of the drama fund but require the student to wear their own black leggings and white t-shirt to coordinate. If the costumes are not reusable for future dramas, the students are permitted to keep them.
This class will require commitment to rehearsals outside of Monday’s class time for the production that will be determined at the beginning of each semester. This class will also require the parents to be on a volunteer rotation at such rehearsals. I need extra eyes and hands to keep things safe and running smoothly. Parents will sign up for these volunteer commitments within the first few weeks of each semester.
Students who desire to serve on the Set Crew do not need to pay for the class. They may come to class on the weeks we focus on the production but not otherwise, since they are not enrolled. Set Crew is a volunteer team that is required to attend all extra rehearsals and sometimes meetings solely for them. This is not something that needs to be registered for, but requires one on one discussion with me.

Scientific Theory (Upper EL)

DESCRIPTION: In Let’s Talk Science Level 4: Adventures in the Scientific Method, students will join characters Hannah and Ben as they explore the scientific method through the fields of chemistry and marine biology. Through conversational lessons, hands-on experimentation, observation, and documentation, students encounter God’s design as they explore matter, elements, the carbon cycle, measurements, worldview, classification, the ocean, tide pools, coral reefs, algae, seagrass, and marine life. Along the way, they’ll discover hidden treasures that teach them more about their relationship with God as they encounter God’s wisdom, power, and majesty on display in creation.
Course Objectives
Students completing this course will:
• Explore elements of chemistry and marine biology, including the scientific method, lab reports, measurements, matter, the periodic table of elements, mixtures, solutions, chemistry application, tides, tide pools, algae, seagrass, coral reefs, and marine life.
• Uncover how our worldview impacts the study of science and learn a simple question to discern observational science from historical science.
• Discover that science teaches many lessons about God and our relationship with Him.
Students will spend approximately 30 minutes per lesson, five times per week.
Experiments will be done in class, but students will need to complete book work at home, depending on time.
